Since 1997 the Barcelona Jazz Orquestra has collaborated with the "La Caixa" Foundation in the annual educational sessions which the latter holds at the "Palau de la Música Catalana" for the benefit of the city's schools, an event which has become a regular and continuing commitment. In 2005, the Barcelona Jazz Orquestra embarked on a new phase in its development under the guidance of its new director, Dani Alonso. Since then it has performed on various occasions at the Terrassa Jazz Festival, at the Arenys de Mar Jazz Festival, and has also appeared in Tarragona together with the Gracia Gospel Choir in a show entitled "The Streets of New Orleans". Another landmark was reached with the BJO's concerts in conjunction with the American saxophonists Jesse Davis and Brad Leali at the Jazz Festivals at Ramatuelle and Foix, in France, the BJO's first performances outside Spain, which were both highly successful.
During the 2007 season the "Swing Dances" have been resumed at the "Sala Apolo" on a monthly basis, the number of concerts and tours around Catalonia has been increased, and new challenges have been taken up, such as the recording of a new disc and a Tour together with Brad Leali (in July 2007). Our current programme continues in October with a series of performances in Barcelona, during which the BJO will appear in the company of top figures from the world of international jazz.
